And Jim, have no fear, we're all rookies to an event like this. I'm guessing your winter car is not another EVO.?
Unfortunately the budget wouldn't allow a second evo :(

....its a $1500 Impreza.

My wife has already expressed concern a couple of times that I will start modifying the Impreza in addition to the evo. Just trying to make it reliable winter transportation right now, but I would love to try hill climbing at some point in the future....so her concern is probably valid.

Well, for ice events, the only modification that makes sense is some studded tires. Using a daily is fine. I had a blast hooning my old Legacy around last winter.

Also, you just need to get the wife to drive in a few events, then she'll be hooked. It's the best way to get new toys for the cars I've found thus far; paying for said parts, not-withstanding.

Whereabouts in Monkton do you live, Jim? My wife and I just moved from Monkton Ridge (behind the old Norris Farm Stand/Barn on Silver St.) to Westford. Lived there for three and a half years.

I was considering doing this with my Outback, too bad it's losing oil through the cam seals and I'm too lazy to take this car apart :( I might do it if I can find some studded snows for my E46

That sounds like a similar conversation I had with my wife when i said I wanted a winter beater. I am still driving my truck, while the sti is parked.

I live pretty close to where you did - I'm on Mountain Road. I saw that you lived in Monkton about the time you were moving.

I think once the kids are a little older my wife will be interested. I think she's a little concerned that she will enjoy it. Of course she just tells me that she doesn't want to make me look bad by having my wife beat me...

Hah hah, very nice! My wife has posted quicker times at a few autocrosses. I never hear the end of it.

We looked at several houses and lots on Mountain Rd. We really like that area, but nothing panned out.
