Mt. Philo Land Management (2014)

Post by saabgrrl »

Saw the following on WCAX today. Might be of interest.

Vt. officials seek public input on Mt. Philo

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials are asking the public to weigh in on a new management plan for Mt. Philo State Park. The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources is working on a new long-range management plan the 232-acre park in Charlotte. Officials began the process in 2012 with a resource inventory to identify natural communities, rare or endangered species and sensitive areas. Land uses were also mapped.

Officials are asking Vermonters to fill out an online survey about the park by April 6. The agency hopes to finish development of their draft plan by this summer. Mt. Philo is Vermont's oldest state park and a popular destination for camping, hiking, dog walking, sledding and snowmobiling.

MOUNT PHILO STATE PARK – Public Input Survey

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources is seeking public input for the update of the long-range management plan for Mt. Philo State Park in Charlotte.

Mt. Philo, Vermont’s oldest State Park is dominated by the 968-foot Mount Philo with spectacular views of the Lake Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The park is popular for camping, hiking, dog walking, sledding and snowmobiling. The 2010 gift of the Allmon parcel brings the total acreage of Mt. Philo State Park to 232 acres.

The planning process began in 2012 with resource inventories which identified natural communities, rare, threatened and endangered species, forest cover types, unique wildlife habitats, rare plant communities and other ecologically sensitive areas. Recreational, cultural and historic land uses were also mapped.

An on-line survey has been developed to offer an opportunity for input into this process. To complete the survey go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MtPhiloSP
The deadline for submission of survey is April 6, 2014.

I just took the survey. They aren't asking for a lot of information in the predefined questions (and watch out for the rankings that change from low to high when the previous questions were high to low).

There is ample opportunity to provide additional comments. From the SCCV perspective, I'm unsure what we can add to support our use of the park.

Any thoughts?

Filled out survey. Followed Seth's idea about auto race. Did not see where to add info that would be relevant to what we do.

I just filled it out as well. I added in a little blurb about how I would like to see future management still allow the SCCV to hold our annual hill climb.
