Rallye des Neiges, Saturday Jan. 28, 2012

Post by Dave_G »

While we're all sitting around waiting for the lakes to freeze or the snow to melt or however you prefer to get your car through winter, I would just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the winter rallies that are in our neighborhood. Lots of people know about John Buffum's Winter Challenge Rally (Feb. 18 this year), but there are others. On March 10 is the all-day Frost Heaves Rally around Laconia, NH, and next weekend is the famous Rallye des Neiges, held just across the border in Bromont, QC. All of these are TSD rallies. You don't need a specially equipped car, helmets, etc. etc. Just you and your daily driver, with good snow tires and emergency gear like shovel, tow strap, and warning triangles.

Neil and I did the Rallye des Neiges last year and it's a huge amount of fun. This was the first rally ever held in Canada, and has been going since 1937! Here's some more info on the rally:

And a report from last year's rally:

A couple videos from last year:

And a really cool video from the 1961 rally, in the days when it was 24 hours long (it's 5 hours now). It's a little dated, but it's well worth the 14 minutes just to see the old cars and how it used to be:

See ya out in the snow! :rally:
