Need to adjust and then get to work on a splitter

Nice looking air-dam-in-progress, but I have to wonder: Is your suspension travel greater than the ground clearance of that thing? If so, you might experience obvious problems under hard braking and/or corner entry. I'd hate to see your work all splintered on the tarmac. :(

I have suspension travel? lol

When I get the splitter made I'll trim the spoiler another 1/2-3/4" to make life a little easier. 400lb springs keep body movement under wraps pretty well though. I'll also trade in this light aluminum for a heavier gauge sheet.

Only if you want it to handle like a sports car instead of a buckboard. :)

You might be surprised. I get plenty of suspension travel with 600 lb. springs in a similar sized car. For example, here's what happens in a hard corner at an autocross. Check out the different between the ride height on the inside and outside:

And here's one under hard braking. Look how much the nose dives on those 600 lb. springs:

Good point. I think I'll be ok until I switch to R-comps. It will be a learning experience all around.

Dave(s)(both) - are your springs the same F/R? Just curious, got this from the Hotchkis site for mine...
Progressive Rate Spring: Yes
Spring Rate, Front (lbs/in): 173/195 lbs./in.
Spring Rate, Rear (lbs/in): 160/300 lbs./in
+1 on the learning experience

yes 400 front and rear. A lot of the STS guys run 450 front and 550-650 rear from what I've gleaned off the web. I'll be more happy with a slightly more even tempered rear end when it comes to hillclimbs.

RWD is obviously a different kettle of fish. Mine are 600F/336R. Stock for the 1st-generation Miata is something around 150F/95R. Spec Miata rates are 700F/350R, IIRC. Some people who like a little more oversteer will use a proportionally greater spring rate in the rear, but I really like how mine behaves.

Equal rates front and rear would be a disaster on the Miata. It would oversteer so bad you'd never be able to keep it pointing the right direction.
