99 Miata Slow Build for Fast Miata

Post by Stiletto »

Hi everyone, I'm Preach's wife and I lurk here. I plan on owning this car either until I die, or get a Veyron. Whichever comes first. So, it's going to be a slow build, but I'll get there. ;)

This weekend we are installing my http://www.bossfrog.biz/ rollbar. We went with the double hoop maxx in black.

Here are the un-labeled parts, which is kind of a pain. There was a little trial and error on a few things.

Image

The rollbar comes in three major parts, the two hoops and a center piece that straddles the center console. Here's one of the hoops and the center part.

Here's the interior stripped and the carpet slightly modified.

The bars fitted in and mostly bolted down in this one.

At this point the bars are all bolted in and now comes the cutting of the package deck and other things to get everything fitting back in there properly.

It was helpful at times that there were three of us working on this project. Getting the bolts to line up with the existing holes in a few spots was tough, we ended up using a c-clamp, port-a-power and some muscle. You also need about a 12" long drill bit at one point, which a friend of ours supplied. I'm a little nervous about the seat belts retracting, at this point it doesn't look good. (I see a 5 point racing harness in my future.) :D

More to come...

All done!

As you can see pollen is an issue at my house.

Although the instructions say it will take 8 hours, to do a good thorough job it took about 10. The seat belts are a bit hard to retract, but they still work. I still think I need a racing harness... ;) It looks great too, which counts for something.

The sunvisor on my Miata gets used constantly. I would hate to drive a convertible without it (guess I would have to use a hat!).
