I'll bet you know of some cool web sites...

I'll bet you know of some cool web sites...

Post by jcollins914 »

Hey Everyone.

I have recently stumbled across two particular internet resources that I think we could all benefit from.

For example, in the case of the first one, I truly feel like a tool for not knowing this stuff already... but this article (which I've read twice and even highlighted on the second round), is what I would consider a must read (and take the time to understand), for any auto enthusiast. I wish I read it a long time ago, but only recently came across it. It's all about oil. Enjoy, or ignore it:

Here's another site I found I recently spent vast amounts of intrigued time on, (caution, you might as well). Specifically, I rifled through all 900+ of their "technical articles", and read many, many of them. Why? They seem to be aimed directly at me, (or the Australian version of me), and to varying degrees to all of you as well. I found several of the articles to have inspired additional lines to my project car's to-do list. I have purchased a magnahelic gauge. I have a better understanding of aerodynamics, cooling systems, intercoolers, turbo-systems, oil, and many other car-related topics as well, (in exchange for hours and hours over the course of weeks reading).

The Tech features section I fine tooth combed:

It occurred to me as I encountered these, (and got sucked into them), that I am undoubtedly not the only one who has sites like these that they "sure are glad they discovered"...

In the interest of expanding my automotive horizons, I would be delighted if others would be willing to share their "must-read" favorites...

Thanks,
Jeff

Bob Is The Oil Guy.

If anyone here is as into oil analysis as I am, you either already know this site or will appreciate it. VOA, UOA posts and discussions among other things. Really a great lubrication resource.

Reading the forums, for example, you might learn: the specifics of Mobil 1 switching from a true Grp.IV base stock to a hydrocracked Grp.III + PAO; that really the only true street (i.e. detergented) Grp.IV / V is Redline; and that the HDEO oils like Rotella-T & Castrol Tection show very good shear strength with excellent Zn & Ph levels, making them a cheap alternative to PCMO synthetics. (From reading this site I've switched from Mobil 1 0W-40 to Castrol Tection Extra 15W-40 Diesel oil in my VR-4, and Rotella-T 10W-30 in my Jeep.)

Low mileage 0-200km Subie (mainly STI) engines for what (import tuner says) is Cheap! With ecu's and wiring harnesses too. Your mileage may vary.
