.....We will also pick 4-6 official driving events for the year, select their dates and post them so all know what and when they are as well. Again to allow people plenty of time to plan for them and to pick and choose which ones they want to attend. One of these events will of course be our all German Car event, OktoberFAST. But we also hope to have a spring, summer and fall drive, attend some of the Sports Car Club of Vermont’s Autocrosses, attend a summer and winter driving school, as well as take in some our neighboring chapters events as well.
Happy New Year!!

It was in the holiday greeting that John sent out recently. I guess he likes me more.

I got this email from John today:
Thoughts? I'll get back to John soon with some more info...
I wrote back to let him know we are interested, but that keeping the SCCV masses away might be a tough sell. I threw out the idea of making it a bit more school like and having some SCCV-ers there as coaches for the BMWCCA (etc) newbies.Hey Jason,
It has been awhile since we spoke. We met at Sugarbush for your Piston
Cup autoX.
I have talked with Kyle Lewis at the Bush and she says the event went
very well. I see from your events calendar that you do not have
Sugarbush back on your agenda.
Did it not go well?
We are once again planning our OktoberFAST All German Car event which is
October 5-7. I had talked with Steve Jones last year about doing an
AutoX on the Sunday morning of our event and have the SCCV host and run
such an event for us.
Our club has no experience with planning or running such an event but
would really like to have one. So I am writing to formally ask if the
SCCV would like to host an AutoX for the GMC BMW CCA's OktoberFAST
event.
This would be a 1 day event open primarily to attendees of our event.
Sugarbush is looking to charge us $375 for the day. I am not sure what
a fair market price is for such an event but at $30 we would need only
12 cars to cover the cost of the parking lot. Our club is not looking
to make any money on this event, so any money made by hosting and
running this event after expenses would be for the SCCV.
Our event drew over 130 cars last year and I feel strongly that we will
bring more this year. Many people have asked for an AutoX so I am
confident having one will be popular with our attendees. But keep in
mind for most of our attendees this will be a first time thing for them,
I don't suspect we will have any hard core autoXer's. So we'd like to
try and have this be a safe environment for them to try an autoX without
feeling intimidated.
So I guess I'm trying to say I'd like to keep it primarily to our event
attendees and a small group of driver/cars/club members from your group
that you would like to personally invite.
We're a bunch of virgin's at this and want to give it a try and I see
this as a potential revenue making opportunity for your club.
What do you think?

Jason, this might be your opportunity to practice teaching... Personally, I'd love to help out and "instruct" or help put on the event. Especially if I was to get one of those "special invites" to run the kart with the Bimmer's...

I would offer to help put this on even if it is limited to BMW club members. They'll probably need help with instructing, course setup, timing, safety -- pretty much everything. I think sharing our expertise can only be a good thing.
Maybe if I showed up with my iX, complete with tall springs and all-season tires, they'd let me run it.

So, it sounds reasonable to say we'll (help) run the thing.
Open up x number of slots to SCCV folks to work / coach / instruct / ride in other people's cars. Possibly run your own car if someone wants a ride in it?
No SCCV-ers there just to run their own car and nothing else.
It sounds like John is pretty hot to get the go / no-go on this so he can start advertising it. I figure if we (SCCV) are happy with the "bad news" scenario of doing all the work and none of the driving, we can go ahead and tell John it's a go.
I'm not going to tell John anything definitive yet, though.
Am I way off base here?

I can only speak for myself, but I'd be willing to help run the event and offer some instruction. Personally, I'd like to be able to get a few runs in, but we can always work on that part...brownMINI wrote:So, it sounds reasonable to say we'll (help) run the thing.
