How to lose 700lbs

Post by DaveEstey »

Buy a lighter car in the first place.

Picked up a 1991 Honda CRX Si prepped for SCCA class STS. It's a bunch of fun driving a car that weighs so little.

Putting the LS Meshies and all-season tires on for the drive home.

This means the DC5 is retiring from racing. The CRX will be resprayed silver though to carry on the tradition.

Should be fun racing this year. 188k miles on the chassis and engine, but the head was rebuilt 2 years ago and the car has been trailer to events for roughly three years.

Rules as of now:
Car starts in Class 1 with +7 points.
Adjustable shocks +5
Threaded Adjustable Spring Perches and springs +4
Changed/Added anti-sway bars +3
Camber plates/bolts/arms +3
Cat-back exhaust system +1

So that puts me in Class 2 +8 points but with plenty of room to grow still.

Going to freshen up the interior and when tax return comes maybe get Joey to cage it up.

If anybody sees a passenger side rear view mirror please let me know, this one has no glass in it.

I'll start checking my parts caches as I visit them.

Its unbelievable how fun an extremely light car is to drive. One of my favorites was a '89 CRX DX. 92 HP, but it only wieghed ~2000lbs.

I always thought my RSX was on the heavy side and this car confirms it. Even with the power difference the CRX just feels better.

Granted with all the poly bushings and stiff suspension it sounds like a herd of mice is being stomped on when I hit a bump.

I know what you're saying about a lighter car, my car is about 200 pounds lighter than my dads M3 and has a less complicated rear suspension, it's so much more fun to throw around corners than the M3 even with about 100 hp less

Be sure to check in with the revised rules once we're done 'fixing' them!

The RSXs are on the heavier side for a "race" car, but are still very light compared to the Honda/Acura lineup. I'm looking to go on a diet and shed around 200-250 lbs. to get the car under 2500lbs. Though I won't be able to come close to the CRX weight, I can still try.

Keep us posted on the progress and pictures never hurt too.

Any engine swaps in the near future?
