Re: CNYR SCCA Rallycross series announced!
I had a great time at the inaugural CNY Region Rallycross at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, NY. Built in 1969, this big 5/8-mile banked dirt oval was the perfect venue for this event. The conditions were my favorite: dry, hard, and fast.
Here are some pics from the glass smooth CNY rallycross course last weekend.
The club's autocross [and now also rallycross] truck. All of the timing equipment is inside and there is a digital display sign on the roof so you know what time you ran after each run.
The starting line was consistent all day because it was on blacktop.
NER's Scott Beliveau and Chris Regan change the course a bit during the break.
A brand new Subaru STi in M4 class.
These guys ran this ex-Police cruiser. They looked like Bo and Luke Duke out there!
My '91 Sentra SE-R held the top spot at the half time break by 2 seconds overall.
This is Nate Walczyk 's quick Neon. They make good rallycross cars indeed.
Didn't think you'd ever see someone rallycross a Toyota Yaris did you? This is the organizer's car, James Quattro. Btw, that's his real last name - imagine that, a rally guy with a last name like that?
Here is some in car video from James' Yaris.

The next event is on June 26th and is a night event! Check it out HERE.

Re: CNYR SCCA Rallycross series announced!
Hey guys, I had to leave for vacation as soon as I got home on Sunday morning, hence the delay in posting my write up. First off I want to thank James, Mark, Amanda, and the rest of the gang for putting the evening's event together for us.
The organizers and registrars. The driver's meeting followed.
Event #1 only had a dozen cars this event saw that number more than double. They had a great turnout.
The track layout was different and they used more of the 5/8ths mile oval this time around. This time the start line was on dirt and came from the oval's usual pit on road.
The course was laid out with smoother, gentler turns for this limited visibilty night event.
This was a really fast, smooth, and flowing course. You could literally bring any car this track. It's as smooth as a rallycross can possibly be.
As flags can be hard to see at night, the officials had use of the track's caution light system. Nice.
Here are a few shots I took from the flag stand:
And some from ground level.....
How smooth is this course? Lowered cars are perfectly at home at this venue.
Where else can you see a Honda S2000 C/R at a rallycross?
They even had a Subaru SVX out there. I've never seen one of these at a rallycross before.
Braking after the finish line. Note the reflective stickers applied to the pylons. This was of great help for people with poor lighting like me.
Yes, there were other cars there besides Subarus. It's just that they were all in my run group and I couldn't take pics of them. There were a few odds and ends that need to be addressed for the next event and they have been discussed on the CNY forums. No one has ever run a night rallycross event before, so it stands to reason there would be some bugs to work out.
I congratulate the CNY guys for holding this very unique and interesting night event. It was a unique experience very much and I appreciate the effort and thought that went into it!

OK, gotta ask: what's w/ the S2000's front end? Is that some kind of Lexan shield, or (?)Mike Kamm wrote:

I was hoping someone would notice that. Nope, the owner was just getting a bit artsy and taped glow sticks to the outline of the body. Flash photography didn't capture it, but in the dark the car's silhouette glowed blue and looked a bit like the batmobile. It was actually pretty cool. I'll see if I can get a pic from him. I know he set up a tripod and took some time lapse exposures.DaveVT02S wrote:OK, gotta ask: what's w/ the S2000's front end? Is that some kind of Lexan shield, or (?)Mike Kamm wrote:

It is fun for sure. Yes, rallycross is the same as auto-x only on snow/dirt/gravel. It's best if your car isn't lowered though. I'm heading out to Weedsport tonight to be ready at 7:30 am tomorrow morning.elDuderino wrote:this sounds like a lot of fun!
