Just to clarify, Paul: did you mean Feb. 2nd and 3rd (Sat. & Sun.)? The 1st is Friday...

Guess I better get working on some tires - "substandard" ice the last couple years put me in full wait-and-see-until-the-last-minute mode...

How well did the ice survive the thaw?

I second luckypenney"s (don't know who you are?) question. Could one of you locals please make a stop by the bay today. Nothing too time-consuming; just make note of whether the standing water on the ice has frozen yet. Perhaps walk out a bit, but not necessary. A picture would be great.
It will help me to motivate to drive 1 hour+ to drill tomorrow.
There is a chance it will be drivable by Sunday.

Here is a picture from Wednesday night:

Just got my BMW running again (removed turbo as I blew it up, can't afford a new turbo yet) today. Got my super studs ready...

More bolt tires...epic!!!
Everybody wins with more bolt tires.
Regular snow tires have like 4 times the grip on scuffed ice that they do on glare ice.

Paul- I posted a picture from the access on the SCCV facebook page. All the trucks are staying in the lot. Yesterday a kid practicing "rally" broke the ice and need to be pulled out at the sandbar access. Be careful if you go to check it out.
