** CANCELLED ** ITT #1 Lake Elmore 1/18/2020

Post by MX5VT »

The 2020 Ice Time Trials aren't as far sighted as you may think! The season is upon us as Lake Elmore is blessing us with promising icy awesomeness. We are very hopeful that the first ITT of 2020 will be this Saturday the 18th. **PLEASE NOTE** Sudden cancellation is a real possibility, even morning-of. In the event of cancellation, entries will be credited for a future event. We will know more come Friday evening once we drill.

Location: Lake Elmore
Ice thickness: 12-17" as-of Saturday the 11th - we will be re-drilling this Friday the 17th to confirm/update.
Access: 343 Beach rd, Wolcott VT @ the North end of the lake - Look for welcome vehicle (Stephen with the Saab 900) as he will show you where to enter. DO NOT USE THE FISH AND GAME ACCESS TO ENTER THE LAKE!

Parking: There is a parking lot by the north entrance for spectators - the provided address should get you close. That address is also the location to enter the lake for drivers. Parking for drivers will be on the lake in the paddock area we will have marked out. Please utilize this area and space yourself at least a car width apart from other vehicles. Also, we want to minimize the traffic on and off the lake, so please try to bring what you need for the day. It is imperative all drivers arrive, leave, and drive about the town and ice with respect - loud and fast does not reflect well on the club with the surrounding community.

PRE-REGISTRATION is required to sign up for the event, as well as to help keep all our and your fingers warm! Here is the link on Motorsportreg:

Purchase your 2020 club membership for only $20 and save $10 on every entry fee for all of 2020! Must be a club member to count for overall points championships and awards:

Cost for event:
$30 for SCCV members
$40 for non members

Fully review the Ice Time Trial guide AND rules pages below. Rules HAVE changed for this upcoming season and it is your responsibility to know them.

PIG mats are REQUIRED and this will be enforced!

PIG mats are super absorbent “paper towels” that are used to soak up automotive spills / leaks. You will be required to have 2 in your car in order to participate.

We will be selling them at events. $5 for 4 mats. Everyone should have 4, but we only require 2. You are welcome to buy elsewhere.

Schedule of the day:
Registration (9am-10am)
Tech Inspection (9am-10:15am)
Drivers meeting and Course fam run (10:15am – 10:45am)
Course runs (11am-4pm)
Post event drivers meeting (4pm-4:15pm)

Any questions please ask!

**1/18/20 ITT Cancellation Notice**

Hi folks,

A few of our crew went out this evening to do the final ice measure for the event on Lake Elmore. Unfortunately, we did not find the necessary thickness to be able to hold the event; we measured consistently in 10” range, which is not sufficient per our insurance guidelines. Furthermore, that is a pretty thin margin to safety put a plow truck on the ice. Based on our experience with ice trends, even with the projected cold weather, we do not believe the next 24 hours would yield a significant increase in ice. So we had to make that tough call. We appreciate everyone’s interest and excitement – some new faces too, please do not be discouraged! We will keep getting out there to check the pulse of the lakes – possibly even Mallett’s Bay in the coming weeks. Ice is tough and fickle, and unfortunately that can result in a lot of anticipation followed by a sudden cancellation. We hate to do it, but safety always comes first. We will let you know as soon as the augers start digging deeper. Thank you all for your dedication and understanding.
