need an autox helmet
i want to do some autox this year, but i am in need of a helmet. i see some cheap helmets on ebay but i'm not sure if they are actually any good or acceptable. i don't want to spend alot of $$. maybe some1 has a used helmet they would sell me for cheap? i'm not sure of the helmet standards for autox either. and it is hard to find helmet ratings.

Re: need an autox helmet
Good year to purchase a used helmet as some organizations require 2005 (2010 are available), therefore everyone with a 2000 or 2005 is selling. I have a 2000 large helmet that I think I will sell. Full face with essentially brand new clear visor as I never used it (removed it from the helmet and store it).

Re: need an autox helmet
What rabbit farmer has should suit you if it fits.
Basically you want a M or SA rated helmet that is rated 2000 or newer. The stickers are every 5 years.
We look for the sticker in tech inspection.
Look at this link to see an example of the stickers. Only the M and SA 2000 or newer is acceptable.

If you're looking for a new helmet, I like saferacer.com as a source for safety gear.

I second this. I purchased my HJC motorsports full face AR-10 II helmet from them. If your a SCCA member, they have a 10% discount on everything except HANS devices.honda8790 wrote:If you're looking for a new helmet, I like saferacer.com as a source for safety gear.
I love my AR-10 II, very comfortable, great ventilation, superb fitment. Also, its a SA2010 helmet, so its good until 2015.

Re: need an autox helmet
Actually, our autocross rules state that acceptable helmets are ones with the latest rating (currently SA2010 or M2010) or the two previous ratings (currently 2005 and 2000). So your 2010 helmet will be accepted until the 2025 helmets are released.Valkyrie wrote:Also, its a SA2010 helmet, so its good until 2015.

I'll be bringing my Bell Sport. If it doesn't fit you then I'll probably donate it to the club for a loaner helmet.thorton0 wrote:still lookin to get a used helmet if some1 wanted to bring 1 to the devil's bowl saturday
I also went with the HJC AR-10 II this year. Ended up getting a nice discount on it at OGracing.com.
